Discover Hidden Ports of Europe

Cultural connoisseur or stylish explorer? Foodie or history buff? Art lover or adventure junkie? Europe has something for absolutely everyone.

Introducing a relaxed a style of travel – Mediterranean Small Ship Cruises without the crowds. Up close and personal, our small ship experiences invite culture, history and breathtaking scenery to take center stage.

Imagine spending your vacation on a private luxury yacht or aboard a traditional, luxurious family-owned boat as you explore some of the world’s most enchanting places in the hidden harbours of Croatia, Spain, Monaco or Italy.

Small-ship cruises are all about engaging with other like-minded people and sharing the same sea-going experience. While others wait for tenders in tedious lines, you swim and kayak off your own watersports platform. You step ashore into the center of amazing towns, such as Lisbon and Dubrovnik to explore the secret charms of places larger ships simply cannot reach.

Unlike the crowded cruise ships left in your wake, you are one of just 30 to 300 guests, allowing for a more immersive experience – where you can get to know the locals rather than outnumber them.

It Feels Like Your Very Own

Each one of Windstar’s graceful yachts welcome fewer than 300 lucky guests and take you to some of the world’s most enchanting places, most desirable ports, secluded coves and hidden harbors of the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas.

Small, sleek and gracious, gliding their way through spectacular seas and oceans, each ship is framed in striking white sails and is designed to be functional and comfortable. With its sleek lines and computerized controls, Windstar Cruises is revolutionary in both concept and design. These ships offer a yachting experience that is truly “180 degrees from ordinary” in an elegant atmosphere with luxurious accommodations, exquisite service and cuisine.

Life feels different on these yachts; romance is in the air, laughter resonates, music plays – and all is well in the world.  On Windstar’s yachts can you nestle into picturesque ports in Croatia, mingle with yachtsmen in their favourite spots in Ibiza, make a wish as the moon bathes in the canals of Venice, and thrill to the exquisite precision of Andalusian horses.

Check out our featured Windstar cruises:

Each voyage connects you to the world, the place, the people that broaden your vision and open your heart.

One of the things best loved about the Windstar experience is the smart casual dress code – no ties required or jackets for gentlemen, and ladies can wear their pretty summer dresses.

The other much loved feature is open seating dining which means you can choose where and when and with whom you want to dine and really enjoy the fun loving and social camaraderie which abounds. And the dining – in a word it’s delish. Each meal is a treat for your senses, prepared by a premier chef and served in intimate, impeccable style along with a superb collection of fine wines.

It’s all about the destination

See more, linger longer, have the kind of adventure that defines the difference between tourism and true travel. Our small ship cruises provide ample time each day to truly immerse yourself.

Time on these yachts can be absolutely magical; there’s something truly exhilarating about sailing into an ancient town as dawn breaks and the towers and fortresses glow in the morning sunshine. Or anchoring off that charming Mediterranean Isle with the watersports platform down and diving into the cooling waters of the Aegean Sea; and perhaps watching the sails unfurl as you sail out of Lisbon, City of Explorers.

Each on-board menu is tailored to reflect the destination you’re in. In Spain it’s fresh paella, in Croatia it’s Cevapcici or locally caught fish. Before arriving in port, your cruise director will provide tips on the best local spots to eat and drink, from that seafood restaurant on Hvar to a hidden café in Tangier’s medina. And our team of loal guides can take you on a variety of optional excursions, if you don’t want to explore on your own.

It’s true – you won’t find nightclubs or bowling alleys on any of our small ships. In fact, some smaller vessels don’t even have an onboard pool. But – they do have a watersports platform or a ladder at the back of the boat for swimming, snorkelling and even kayaking in certain places.

‘Sustainable cruising’ might sound like a contradiction in terms, however small ships are gentle on the local communities and much better for the environment.

8-day Cruising Adventure ex Dubrovnik, from US$1,795 (KL5)

An idyllic island escape in the middle of Europe, the elegance and old-world charm of Croatia offers up impressive coastlines, meandering rivers, and the sparkling waters of the Adriatic to swim in.  Alongside the natural beauty of national parks and stunning beaches, enjoy regular doses of the region’s unique culture and tastes.

When it comes to cruising, bigger is not necessarily better.  Instead of mooring out at sea, we pull up right in the center of town. You can stroll on and off the boat whenever you like (very handy when you forgot your sunglasses).

Choose from Deluxe yachts or A-Category boats, each privately owned and operated, and accommodating up to 42 guests. Relax on spacious decks and enjoy some quiet time in the sun. In the comfortable dining room and lounge area you’ll get to know your fellow passengers and have a chance to make real lasting friendships.

Itinerary outline:

  • Cast off from Dubrovnik aboard our family-owned vessels, and cruise to islands both chic and ancient.
  • Explore the romantic and evocative Old Town of Korčula and enjoy tastings at a local winery in Trstenik.
  • Navigate the Adriatic to the Renaissance facades and jagged limestone cliffs of Hvar, then discover the soul of Croatia – Split.
Croatia Cruise

Yours truly, relaxing in Croatia

Itineraries are flexible enough to change as the weather dictates. So, if we spot some idyllic sun-soaked cove of the bow, there’s nothing stopping us from dropping anchor and having a swim.

Hundreds of islands – dozens of choices. We have recently experienced the beauty of this region, so ask Christine Boecker to find the perfect itinerary for you.

Is this trip right for you?

  • This is small ship cruising. Our 30-45 passenger boats, specifically built to sail the Dalmatian Coast, are beautiful and very comfortable, although they do not have all the facilities of large passenger ships. There is no pool (other than the sea), and dress is very casual at all times.
  • Cruising takes place during the day which means the beautiful scenery Dalmatian scenery can be absorbed – part of the fun of travelling is the travel itself.
  • Unlike others, our ships overnight alongside, which allows time to dine and enjoy evening entertainment ashore during the balmy summer evenings. Breakfast and lunch is served on board.
  • Cabins are roomy and comfortable, some with picture windows (deluxe), others with portholes (A category) and all have en-suite bathrooms. There’s air-conditioning and most come with a safe, if you’re worried about your valuables.
  • As these are small vessels, most cabins will experience some engine noise. Due to some early starts, a pair of earplugs is recommended for light sleepers.
  • Onshore activities and excursions can be arranged. Most will involve walking, visiting ancient sites and historical places. Some of this walking may be over cobbled streets and uneven ground in potentially hot conditions, so bring a good pair of walking shoes and drink plenty of water.
